The Badge Customization Problem

If you’ve ever tried to customize a visitor badge, you know the pain. Change the logo? That’s a code change. Move the QR code from the bottom to the side? Another code change. Want a different layout for your satellite office? You guessed it — more code, another app update, and probably a support ticket.

For most visitor management systems, badge templates are locked inside the application code. Every tweak requires a developer, a build cycle, and a new app deployment to every kiosk. It’s slow, expensive, and it means most organizations just live with whatever default badge they got on day one.

Introducing the Badge Designer

Today we’re launching the Badge Designer — a visual drag & drop badge builder built directly into the KyberAccess dashboard. Design your perfect visitor badge in minutes, hit save, and every kiosk in your organization pulls the new design automatically. No code. No app updates. No waiting.

The Badge Designer lives in your org dashboard under Settings → Badge Printing → Badge Designer. Open it up and you’ll see a canvas at actual print resolution — the exact dimensions of your label. What you see is what prints.

How It Works

The builder is dead simple. You have a canvas. You have elements. Drag them where you want them.

Available Badge Elements

Every piece of information you’d want on a visitor badge is available as a draggable element:

Visitor photo — captured during check-in
Visitor name — first and last, or full name
QR code — for checkout scanning and credential verification
Visitor type — color-coded labels (Guest, Contractor, VIP, Vendor)
Host name — who the visitor is meeting
Company — the visitor’s organization
Check-in date & time — when they arrived
Expiration — when the badge expires
Organization logo — your brand front and center
Custom footer — any text you want at the bottom (address, wifi password, emergency number)

Drag any element onto the canvas. Resize it. Reposition it. Done.

Style Everything

Every element on the canvas is fully customizable:

Font size and family — match your brand typography
Text color — use your brand colors or any custom hex value
Alignment — left, center, or right for every text element
Borders — add borders around photos, QR codes, or the entire badge
Brand color picker — set your primary color and it flows through the design

This isn’t a “pick from 3 templates” tool. It’s a real layout builder with pixel-level control.

Portrait — classic vertical badge, ideal for standard Brother QL labels
Portrait Compact — tighter layout that fits more info in less space
Landscape — horizontal orientation for wide-format labels

Design Once, Print Everywhere

Here’s where the Badge Designer gets really powerful: the single source of truth architecture.

When you save a badge design, the builder compiles your layout into optimized HTML. That HTML is stored in Firestore as the canonical badge template. Every iPad kiosk in your organization pulls from this single source.

The flow is simple:

Design your badge in the dashboard
Save — template compiles to HTML and stores in Firestore
Kiosks sync — every iPad automatically pulls the new template
Badges print — the next visitor gets the new design

No app updates. No redeployments. No IT tickets. The kiosk doesn’t even need to restart — it picks up the new template on its next sync cycle.

Multi-Location, Multi-Badge

Running multiple locations? Each one can have its own badge design.

Your corporate headquarters might want a premium badge with the full logo, brand colors, and a welcome message in the footer. Your warehouse might need a high-contrast, no-frills badge that’s readable at a distance. Your R&D lab might want a badge with prominent ITAR or NDA acknowledgment text.

With the Badge Designer, each organization or location gets its own canvas. Design independently, deploy independently.

Works Offline

Badge templates are cached on each iPad kiosk after the initial sync. If your internet connection drops, printing continues with the cached template. When connectivity returns, any template updates sync automatically.

This is especially important for sites with unreliable Wi-Fi — warehouses, construction trailers, remote offices. Your badges keep printing regardless.

How to Get Started

The Badge Designer is available now for all KyberAccess plans.

Log in to your KyberAccess dashboard
Go to Settings → Badge Printing → Badge Designer
Pick a preset layout or start with a blank canvas
Drag your elements, style them, preview the result
Hit Save — your kiosks will sync automatically

If you’re already using badge printing with a Brother QL, DYMO LabelWriter, or Zebra ZD printer, the designer works with your existing hardware. No changes needed on the printer side — only the template changes.

Hardware Compatibility

The Badge Designer outputs templates optimized for all supported label printers:

DYMO LabelWriter 450, 550, 4XL, 5XL
Zebra ZD421, ZD621, GX430t

The canvas automatically adjusts to your printer’s label dimensions, so what you design fits perfectly on whatever label stock you’re using.
